The following describes the services available for our identified gifted and talented students:

Kindergarten & 1st grade students are served in the classroom through differentiated instruction in math, language arts, science and social studies, by teachers that have gifted and talented certification. The teachers work in conjunction with the district gifted and talented coordinator.

2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade students are served through differentiated instruction in math, language arts, science, and social studies, by the district designated gifted and talented teacher. She provides daily services through a pull-out program.

6th , 7th, & 8th grade students are served through accelerated instruction in PreAP Science and PreAP Math. Differentiated instruction is provided in Language Arts and History through a pull-out program instructed by the designated gifted and talented teacher.

9th grade students are served by G/T and/or Advanced Placement (AP) certified instructors in PreAP English, PreAP Social Studies, PreAP World Geography and PreAP Biology.

10th grade students are served by G/T and/or Advanced Placement certified instructors in PreAP English, PreAP Social Studies, PreAP Biology, PreAP Calculus, PreAP World History PreAP Algebra II, and PreAP Chemistry.

11th grade students are served by G/T and/or Advanced Placement certified instructors in AP English, Pre AP Calculus, AP Calculus, PreAP Biology, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP US History, PreAP Chemistry, PreAP Algebra II, and AP Gov./Economics.

12th grade students are served by G/T and/or Advanced Placement certified instructors in AP English, Pre AP Calculus, AP Calculus, PreAP Biology, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP US History, PreAP Calculus, and AP Gov./Economics.

In addition, High School students are offered concurrent enrollment and early graduation.

Differentiated Instruction includes: Compacting, Independent Projects, Tiered Assignments, High Level Questions, Contracts, Enrichment Clusters, Computer-Based Instruction, Telecommunications, and PBL.

 

Credit by Exam is available for each grade level and details are listed in the student handbook.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM:

Students may be nominated for the Gifted and Talented Program during the designated nomination period each spring by teachers, counselors, parents, and other interested persons. The nomination period is announced yearly on the appropriate campuses and on the district website. Nomination forms may be picked up in each campus office.
